I’ve recently caught myself gazing at my computer desktop background picture, which FYI is a snap overlooking Waikiki Beach. Reason one because it brightens up dreary winter days like today. You know the one – you can’t feel your feet, and your woollen hat, which despite looking so chic when you placed it carefully on your head this morning, has now left you with static hat hair. Drats.
Something Julianne Hough and her gorgeous hair know nothing about right now:
Reason two is that it has me dreaming of a tropical holiday. Now I can’t complain too much, because I’m heading to Hawaii in exactly seven months for my honeymoon (insert excited squeal here). But I figure that’s still far too far away to be planning outfits and which juicy orange lipsticks to take along for the ride, wouldn’t you agree?
With that in mind, I’ve made the executive decision to add some summer fun to the Beauty Desk today, Primpers, and talk how you can inject a little tropical into your beauty routine. Let’s go …
Try a Scented Lotion or Creme: Tahaa, an island of French Polynesia and next door to Bora Bora, is renowned for its vanilla production, so it’s no wonder that this rich, hydrating Tahaa Vanilla Caramel Hand Crème, $24.95, has one of the most deliciously natural and sweet scents going. It reminds me of days on the beach, thanks to the dash of fresh coconut, shea butter and macadamia oil, and for those with dry, dehydrated hands, it’s also enriched with rosehip oil to keep your hands silky smooth all day long.
Exfoliate for Glowing Skin: Naomi Gregory, from spaQ Development & Operations, who I spoke to at spaQ in Port Douglas, affirms the concept that both dry body brushing followed by thorough exfoliation will wash away dead skin cells, revealing silky soft skin. I’ve been using the new Chantecaille Bamboo & Hibiscus Exfoliating Cream, $115, from Mecca Cosmetica (out July 1st) which has single-handedly turned my dry, lacklustre skin around. The ultra-gentle creamy skin smoother uses bamboo powder to gently slough away dead skin, while plant enzymes get to work, revealing a glowing, brighter complexion. There’s also a natural floral scent – thanks to the inclusion of hibiscus flower acids – which stimulates cell turnover for vibrant skin.
Go for Cream Eyeshadow: If you’re wanting to really embrace a summer feel, skip your dark, smoky shadow and go for something a little more tropical, like a cream eyeshadow. We love the new ck one color limited edition Deep Dive Summer 2013 capsule collection, inspire by the refreshingck one summer fragrance. Although there are scented nail polish shades in glittering blues and greens, my pick is the long wear cream eyeshadow tube in dune, $28, from selected Myer stores. The soft, creamy formula glides onto lids, and dries down to a shimmering bronze hue, perfect for both summer and winter.
Tell me, Primpers, have you got any plans coming up for a tropical holiday?
Do any of these beauty buys sound up your alley?
